The Oscar winner (“The Hours“) was nominated for a fourth time in 2017 for her work in “Lion.” Most recently, she won a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy award for her role as Celeste Wright on the hit HBO show “Big Little Lies.” Perhaps more impressive is the fact that she appears to be at the most productive stage in her acting career; with a total of eight projects coming out over the next two years, including the upcoming “Destroyer,” which debuted earlier this fall at the Telluride Film Festival and then screened immediately after at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), one has to wonder how the Australian thespian manages it all on top of raising a family. Co-written by longtime screenwriting collaborators Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (“The Invitation,” “Crazy/Beautiful“) and directed by their two-time collaborator Karyn Kusama (“The Invitation,” “Æon Flux,” “Jennifer’s Body“), it’s one of the more anticipated films premiering at TIFF.
“Phil and Matt have written one of the most compelling screenplays I’ve ever read.” Producer Fred Berger (“La La Land“) told Variety. “Nicole is at the top of her game — doing tremendously exciting work — and Karyn is one of the most assured voices working today. It’s a powerful combination, sure to produce an iconic character, and I feel lucky to be in their company.”
